Connecting your first bank

What happens after you sign up: link a bank, then add your first account on the Getting Started flow.

Connecting your first bank

Linking a bank is the fastest way to get value out of Finthy. Right after you verify your email, the app walks you through a short Getting Started flow that ends with you ready to track real money.

The onboarding flow

  1. Create your account and verify your email.

  2. Add a bank: pick your country and institution, then connect it. How the connection works depends on where you live (see below).

  3. Add your first account: once at least one bank link exists, we take you to Add Your First Account. You’ll see your linked banks and can confirm or rename the accounts we discovered.

  4. Done: you’re dropped on the dashboard with real balances and transactions ready to explore.

You can skip any step at the top of the page, Finthy will remind you on the dashboard until your setup is complete.

How banks connect by country

  • United States and Canada: connect automatically through Plaid. You sign in securely with your bank and Finthy keeps your balances and transactions up to date for you.

  • Mexico, Chile, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, and other countries: add your accounts manually and keep them current with file import (upload CSV, PDF, OFX/QFX, Excel, or image statements). In Mexico, our Chrome extension can help capture transactions from your bank’s website.

  • However your transactions get into Finthy, categorization is automatic everywhere.

“Add Your First Account” page

If you connected a bank that exposes multiple accounts (checking, savings, credit card), the first-account page lists all of them and lets you pick which one to set up first. Selecting a bank reveals an inline form where you can adjust the account name, type, and initial balance before saving.

If you’d rather skip ahead, click Skip for now at the bottom of the page.

Adding more banks later

Banks → Connect a bank at any time. There’s no limit on the number of banks or accounts you can link.
