Editing and categorizing transactions

Edit, categorize, and delete transactions — and control whether changes affect your manual account balance.

Editing and categorizing transactions

Once a transaction appears in Finthy, you can edit any field, change its category, or delete it. For manual accounts, you also control whether your edit affects the account’s running balance.

Editing a transaction

  1. In the Transactions list, click the transaction you want to edit.

  2. Update the description, amount, date, category, or reference.

  3. Click Save. The form keeps your changes during navigation, so you don’t lose work if a sync runs in the background.

Categorizing transactions

  • Pick a category from the dropdown — categories are color-coded to help you scan reports.

  • Synced transactions get a category suggested by Finthy; you can override it at any time.

  • Categories you assign feed straight into Spending by category and budget tracking.

Account balance updates on edit and delete

For transactions on manual accounts, the edit and delete dialogs include an Update account balance toggle:

  • Editing — when on, the new amount replaces the old one in the account balance (the help text reads “Apply the new amount to the account’s running balance.”). The modal previews the projected balance.

  • Deleting — when on, the transaction’s amount is reversed out of the balance.

  • Bulk delete — the same opt-in toggle applies; turn it on to reverse all selected manual transactions in one go.

If you leave the toggle off, the balance stays as-is and you can adjust it yourself afterwards.
